Hey there, friends! Welcome to Feel Like Baking Love. I’m MacKenzie, the woman behind the sugar and sprinkles. My love of baking began early, making box mixes with my mom while simultaneously watching Cake Boss, Cupcake Wars, or Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (not a cake related show, but my crush on Guy Fieri burns hotter than the flames on his bowling shirt). Several years later, I was working as a daycare teacher with some really amazing coworkers and friends. My first “big”, from-scratch bake was a red velvet cheesecake cake for my co-teacher’s last day at our center. People were impressed, but none of them were as impressed as I was. I started baking for anything and everything just to have an excuse to try something knew. My very tiny kitchen in my very tiny apartment was perpetually coated in a light dusting of flour and powdered sugar, and I loved it. Except for the time I flipped the wrong switch on my mixer and chocolate cake batter covered my walls, splattered my ceiling, and shot up my nose (not so rookie mistake?). Next thing I knew, I was baking hundreds of cupcakes, cookies, and tiered wedding cakes for complete strangers just because friendly acquaintances recommended ME for the job. Like….. what?! So, this is my full-time gig now. My days are spent in the kitchen listening to podcasts (any fellow true crime Murderinos out there?), and jamming out to Lady Gaga or classic rock (big inspo for the name) while I crank out the goods.
